Let’s Go Camping! | Jessica & Max

December 29, 2011

I always get excited every time someone mentions a camping trip. It brings back memories when I used to be a Boy Scout and ran around the woods. Plus, the change of scenery from the city is always a breath of fresh air. Jessica and Max are two high adventure lovers who would rather escape in the woods more than anything. What better way of hosting their destination wedding than in a forest! Jessica and Max hosted their destination wedding at a beautiful venue in the deep forest of Idyllwild. The ironic thing about this wedding was that prior to their preparations, they each took a brisk 10+ mile hike! Once the two of them returned from their short adventure, Danny and I started their photography session. Simplicity was what they aimed for in this wedding, which they planned successfully. Jessica and her ladies handmade all the details for the wedding from the center pieces to the actual napkins and tablecloths! That was definitely a nice touch for this wedding. Their destination wedding in Idyllwild consisted of only the closest of family and friends (about 30 in total). Enough details, check out their wedding photographs from Idyllwild!

I thought this shirt said so much about these two, so I just had to include this photograph in their wedding. Jessica and Max both got their PhD in physics. Another unique part of this wedding was that Max wore a kilt to represent his Scottish side. Either way, that made their wedding photography session so much more unique.

Check out their simple, yet beautiful, wedding overview from the balcony. While Jessica and Max waited in their designated rooms, Danny and I had the opportunity to snap a few photos of their wedding hall and details before the actual wedding ceremony commenced.

This wedding setup was so cute! I specifically loved the banners that hung around the parameter. Jessica actually stitched each and every one!

With some spare time before the reception, Jessica and Max had their wedding photography session taken with all the greens and nature for us to use at our leisure. Our wedding photography session was a brisk hike around the hillside and a short hop around a couple streams. =)

While Jessica and Max were out for their wedding photography session, their wedding guests had plenty of games to play while they waited for their food! When was the last time you played bean bags?!

Sorry, princess. You might have to wait a few more years before you can taste that bottle.

While the wedding guests all sat down and enjoyed a home cooked meal provided by this lovely venue, Jessica and Max made a wonderful speech and thanked everyone for their journey up the mountain to their intimate destination wedding.

For their adventurous honeymoon, they planned to conquer Mt. Whitney (a mountain that defeated my friends and me a couple years back) to kick start their lovely marriage. As a present from their wedding guests, they made a flag to mount once they reach the summit. Good luck on that battle!

To wrap up this destination wedding photography blog, I thought this photo during the wedding reception was a nice touch. Although Max is fearless in any high adventure, he somehow has a fear of babies. The impression on both Jessica and Max’s faces were priceless. I actually have a large printout of this wedding photo mounted on the wall of my studio to share with all my visitors.

Congratulations again to the both of you. Good luck on your conquest to Mt. Whitney because you will need it! It was definitely a pleasure to be your wedding photographers.

Cheers,

Doug – Contact Me!

P.S. – Since Danny and I were up in the mountains, we sat outside and enjoyed the entire blanket of stars after we clocked out. It would have made an amazing photo…but I was too lazy to take my camera out of the trunk.

Colors of the Rainbow | Sarah & James

December 2, 2010

Sarah and James finally tied the knot! It was a beautiful spring afternoon (yes, I said spring…I am back logged) where Sarah and James held their wedding in a cozy little church in Costa Mesa. This was the first experience for me to see a bride in a wedding dress with a slight shade of pink! It is great to always see originality in every wedding. Her wedding dress was filled with flowery details and her bouquet complimented her outfit perfectly. These little unexpected twists and turns, such as a pink dress, kept their guests on their toes throughout the entire wedding. It is great to see how Sarah and James managed to have a traditional, yet not so traditional wedding at the same time. Either way, the photos turned out great!

After the wedding ceremony, we made our way to a nearby mall, or what it is claimed as an “anti-mall” called the L.A.B. (Little American Businesses). The colors and creativity of the landscapes in the L.A.B. were perfect for these wedding photos. We like to photograph our wedding with a little bit of edge to it~!

Happily Ever After | Jody & Pierre

August 24, 2010

Normally, as a wedding photographer, we try to take the fastest route to every destination in order to save time and prepare before our bride and groom make their entrance. In this case with Jody and Pierre, since their wedding was hosted at the beautiful Pelican Hill in Newport Coast, I just had to take the scenic route! The fresh ocean breeze and the air that brushed through my hair was intoxicating. Even though I had to comb my hair again once I arrived, it was so worth it. While Steve hung out with Jody and the beautiful ladies at the bridal suite that provided the best view of Pelican Hill’s golf course and cliffside, I shot the breeze with the boys in their villas. The boys’ day started with a morning of relaxation that included straight razor shaves for everyone. I suppose not only ladies have the option of being pampered before a wedding!

Pierre provided each of his groomsmen custom cufflinks engraved with their initials as a wedding present.

Look at the size of that rock on the wedding ring! Everything on that ring was beautifully crafted. Pierre even took it to a jeweler to have fingerprints and dust removed prior to the wedding in order to make it sparkle at its best.

Skulls and Bones | Landon & Robby

December 28, 2009

Who knew that integrating skulls and bones on a wedding cake can be so tasteful? Landon and Robby’s wedding was hosted at the beautiful Electra Cruises venue in Newport Beach. I had the opportunity to photograph weddings on these yachts in the past, but never had I seen the entire interior of the yacht decorated in black drapes paired with black bows and chair slips! These two love birds really have an eccentric taste in life. Even though everything was decorated in black, they still kept the tradition of a stunning white wedding dress. Landon actually designed her own wedding dress too!

Wedding in a Library | Sudhir & Kim

November 17, 2009

For those who do not remember Sudhir and Kim, I photographed their engagement session last spring at Los Angeles Union Station. Sudhir and Kim hosted their wedding at Cerritos Library, so that means library voices were strictly enforced when we ran around the different corridors the library had to offer. Despite the constant glares of curiosity from people who studied at the library, my newly weds kept their composure and enjoyed their day and gave their audience a show during our portrait session. I now introduce to you – Sudhir and Kim!

There was a blend of two cultures for this wedding. A Cambodian wedding ceremony was held early in the morning to compliment Sudhir’s culture and a traditional Western ceremony was performed afterward for Kim. This was actually my first time photographing a Cambodian wedding. There were four different performances; each bearing its own significance.
