King of the Ring | Tammy & Thomas

March 26, 2012

Hello everyone!

There comes a time when more and more friends you know are getting married, which means more weddings to attend and more wedding cakes to eat. My friends and I are at this chapter of our lives where we find out someone else we know got engaged or is getting married. In this case, Tammy and Thomas finally tied the knot locally at Diamond Bar Golf Course. To refresh everyone’s memories, Danny and I photographed Tammy and Thomas’ engagement photo session over at UCLA and Art District in Downtown Los Angeles. We started our day over at a neighborhood hair salon, which was conveniently located three houses down from Tammy’s house. While we got some fun prep photos done with the girls, Thomas and the boys hung out at their hotel rooms and watched the UCLA vs Kansas State football game with a few rounds of ice cold beers to cool them from the LA’s summer heat. An interesting side note about this wedding was one of the bridesmaids, Charlene (Sharkey), never wore makeup in her life, but she made this an exception. The outcome was rather interesting since we have never seen her like that before! After all the ladies were prepped up, Tammy literally dove into her wedding dress and was ready to rock for her wedding photography session. Since we were in Diamond Bar (LA County) area, we cruised down Grand Ave. to start off some photos and ended up at a local park in Chino Hills.

After our wedding photography session was all wrapped up in Diamond Bar, we all raced to Diamond Bar Golf Course to get these two married! Since Tammy was loved by most of our high school peers, almost everyone from our year showed up all dressed to impress. The best addition to Tammy and Thomas’ wedding party was their beloved dog, Mr. Beefy, who was the ring bearer. Tammy and Thomas’ officiant had so much soul and put a smile on every wedding guests’ faces. After a quick and swift wedding ceremony, Tammy and Thomas cruised around Diamond Bar Golf Course to conclude their wedding photography session before they partied the night away with speeches, dancing, and just horsing around with all our friends and guests at the wedding.

All Aboard at Union Station | Alfie & Marcos

February 8, 2012

Good evening, Los Angeles. For all the star gazers in Los Angeles, I will post on more wedding blog before calling it a night!

It was a beautiful day in sunny Los Angeles where Alfie and Marcos tied the knot at Los Angeles Union Station. We all start bright and early over at Hilton in Burbank where the entire wedding party prepped up and suited up for the big day. While Alfie and her girls were pampered by their makeup artists, Marcos suited up really quickly in his designated room and headed to LA Union Station for their first look. Since Hilton here at Burbank was a really sweet place, we decided to start Marcos’ wedding photo session before he left. After we photographed a couple quick formals, Marcos and I had to time everything correctly for the following wedding photograph when he went down the elevators (see picture below). It took about 5 tries on the elevator since there were other guests that needed to go to their rooms. In the end, the patience and determination made this following wedding portrait so worthwhile! Sit back and relax everyone and enjoy Alfie and Marcos’ sweet wedding here in Downtown Los Angeles Union Station…and a quick visit to Bradbury Building.

This was the wedding photograph at the elevator! It was kind of funny when the hotel guests curiously watched from the lobby and tried to figure out what we tried to do!

I dig the color coordination on their wedding bouquets.

Alfie and Marcos had their first glance at the Grand Ticketing Concourse at LA Union Station. Since this room is normally closed off to the public, we had the entire place to ourselves to photograph to our heart’s desire. Marcos’ reaction when he saw Alfie in her beautiful wedding dress was priceless. With the spare time we had before the wedding ceremony, we snapped a few wedding pictures around the Grand Ticketing Concourse and around a few booths at LA Union Station. Afterward, we all made our way to Bradbury Building to wrap up the wedding photography session of just the two of them.

The security at Bradbury Building was gracious enough to let us mosey around the upper floor, which is normally closed off to everyone aside from its residences. The vintage architecture at Bradbury Building has to be one of a kind, so we had to make the most of it during our portrait session. Towards the end, we popped a few strobes to pull out some dramatic lighting while Alfie and Marcos cruised down the elevator.

After the wedding ceremony concluded, all the wedding guests headed back to Los Angeles Union Station for some delicious cocktails and live music. These following guitarists were absolutely phenomenal! They made me want to pick up my guitar again and finally learn how to play. I might one day when my wedding season comes to a short break. While all the guests enjoyed the h’orderves, the entire wedding party ran back to Grand Ticketing Concourse to finish up the wedding photography session. We ran around all over the place and took so many awesome photos! After we concluded the photo session, everyone made their grand entrance and danced the night away.

p.s. – Marcos is an amazing artist and animator for various movies and he just published his book! I had the privilege of photographing his mug for his book. I even have a signed copy for my collection. I will post some pictures of that next time!

Surf’s Up | Beth & Nik

December 30, 2011

Hello everyone!

11 hours and counting until the new year in sunny California, mainly sunny in Los Angeles and Orange County. Have you all made your New Years resolution yet?

My lovely wedding couple, Beth and Nik , finally tied the knot at beautiful Shade Hotel in Manhattan Beach! Their wedding was so colorful all the say down to the boutonnieres, which made AWESEOME photos in the end. It was an early day when Beth and Nik prepped up at their designated suites provided by Shade Hotel and hurried up to get married at Wayfarer’s Chapel that was just a quick drive away in Palos Verdes. Since Nik woke up a bit earlier, he had some time to catch the surfs at Manhattan Beach before preparing for the wedding. While Nik took his board to the beach, the ladies all hung out and had their makeup done. Since Danny and I did not bring any swimming trunks, we hung out with Beth and photographed the ladies until Nik came back!

While Beth and her wedding party all prepped up, we took aside all the fun little wedding details to photograph. Every fine wedding detail was taken into consideration. Even the boutonnieres were color coordinated with the bouquets for the bridesmaids then the entire wedding party can match! I suppose of all the wedding details, the most eye catching was Beth’s Manolo heels. I was not sure what it was, but it was the perfect item to compliment her wedding dress. Every sit back and relax; this is going to be a long, yet worthwhile, wedding blog entry.

To start off, check out the wedding details of the boutonnieres and the matching wedding bouquets.

Even the flower girl got an wonderful bouquet of flowers to match her wedding dress!

And of course, the Beth’s wedding bouquet was the best.

While the ladies did their thing, we stood by the sidelines and photographed each touching moment. This photograph of Beth’s mother was one of my favorite photos of the day. =)

I just had to pair Nik’s suit and his favorite surfboard together for this next wedding picture.

Here was a fun side story about Beth and Nik’s wedding. Nik is very particular about everything, even down to his tie. He forgot his favorite black tie at his house and none of our ties were able to match up. Danny and the Nik’s entourage did the next best thing – all jump into a car and speed off to the mall in search of the perfect replacement tie! After countless ties, Nik finally found a suitable one to match his taste. This next wedding photo kind of summed it up as Nik adjusted his tie as they took the escalator down.

Now that the wedding is back on track and all the little wrinkles in the wedding itinerary has been ironed out, everyone met at Wayfarer’s Chapel for the their grand wedding. With the spare time while the wedding guests made their way to Wayfarer’s Chapel, we captured a few fun wedding pictures with the entire wedding party.

The following wedding photos were touching moments when Nik finally saw Beth in her amazing wedding dress. I think Nik squeezed out a few tears too. I think anyone would if they saw her.

After that intimate moment was over, we quickly took one photo of the entire wedding party and rushed everyone to the front of Wayfarer’s Chapel for the wedding ceremony.

Before we headed to Abalone Cove for their wedding photography session, we walked to the side of Wayfarer’s Chapel for some nice colorful greens to add in their wedding photos.

After the wedding photography session was over and a handful of the wedding party had thorns stuck in their legs (thanks for being a real trooper), we all headed back to Shade Hotel (Manhattan Beach) for a fun-filled night of cheers, laughter, and lots of sweets! The dessert table was wonderfully crafted by their wedding coordinator, Linsay Longacre from LVL Events.

shade hotel manhattan beach wedding photography

Instead of the usual guestbook at weddings, Beth and Nik chose a cute bodyboard to match their personalities better.

shade hotel manhattan beach wedding photography

After the father’s speech to Beth and Nik, this next wedding photograph was such a tender moment when Nik got out of his seat to give his dad the biggest hug ever.

shade hotel manhattan beach wedding photography

Many speeches were given out that night to congratulate our wedding couple, but Beth’s sister’s poem stood out amongst the rest.

Since there we sweets everywhere, Danny thought it was only fitting to have the wedding rings photographed in a sea of blue…whatever those blue balls were. =)

Once everyone had their fill, the party started with the first dance as husband and wife. Afterward, DJ dropped the beat and the party rocked all night long!

Congratulations again to the both of you. It was an absolute pleasure to be your wedding photographers at Shade Hotel in Manhattan Beach (Los Angeles).

On another quick side note, this wedding made it to the publications for the spring issue of The Knot. How awesome is that! Check out their wedding on The Knot at your nearest Barns and Noble!

Let’s Go Camping! | Jessica & Max

December 29, 2011

I always get excited every time someone mentions a camping trip. It brings back memories when I used to be a Boy Scout and ran around the woods. Plus, the change of scenery from the city is always a breath of fresh air. Jessica and Max are two high adventure lovers who would rather escape in the woods more than anything. What better way of hosting their destination wedding than in a forest! Jessica and Max hosted their destination wedding at a beautiful venue in the deep forest of Idyllwild. The ironic thing about this wedding was that prior to their preparations, they each took a brisk 10+ mile hike! Once the two of them returned from their short adventure, Danny and I started their photography session. Simplicity was what they aimed for in this wedding, which they planned successfully. Jessica and her ladies handmade all the details for the wedding from the center pieces to the actual napkins and tablecloths! That was definitely a nice touch for this wedding. Their destination wedding in Idyllwild consisted of only the closest of family and friends (about 30 in total). Enough details, check out their wedding photographs from Idyllwild!

I thought this shirt said so much about these two, so I just had to include this photograph in their wedding. Jessica and Max both got their PhD in physics. Another unique part of this wedding was that Max wore a kilt to represent his Scottish side. Either way, that made their wedding photography session so much more unique.

This wedding setup was so cute! I specifically loved the banners that hung around the parameter. Jessica actually stitched each and every one!

With some spare time before the reception, Jessica and Max had their wedding photography session taken with all the greens and nature for us to use at our leisure. Our wedding photography session was a brisk hike around the hillside and a short hop around a couple streams. =)

Sorry, princess. You might have to wait a few more years before you can taste that bottle.

While the wedding guests all sat down and enjoyed a home cooked meal provided by this lovely venue, Jessica and Max made a wonderful speech and thanked everyone for their journey up the mountain to their intimate destination wedding.

destination idyllwild wedding photography

For their adventurous honeymoon, they planned to conquer Mt. Whitney (a mountain that defeated my friends and me a couple years back) to kick start their lovely marriage. As a present from their wedding guests, they made a flag to mount once they reach the summit. Good luck on that battle!

destination idyllwild wedding photography

To wrap up this destination wedding photography blog, I thought this photo during the wedding reception was a nice touch. Although Max is fearless in any high adventure, he somehow has a fear of babies. The impression on both Jessica and Max’s faces were priceless. I actually have a large printout of this wedding photo mounted on the wall of my studio to share with all my visitors.

Congratulations again to the both of you. Good luck on your conquest to Mt. Whitney because you will need it! It was definitely a pleasure to be your wedding photographers.

Cheers,

P.S. – Since Danny and I were up in the mountains, we sat outside and enjoyed the entire blanket of stars after we clocked out. It would have made an amazing photo…but I was too lazy to take my camera out of the trunk.

Secret Handshake | Caroline & Gavin

January 15, 2011

Caroline and Gavin finally got married! It felt like it was only yesterday when Danny and I photographed their engagement sesison in Pasadena. This lovely couple hosted their wedding at the beautiful Park Plaza Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles. It was an intimate wedding filled with a handful of friends and family. The best part of their wedding – Lawry’s Steakhouse catered the entire reception! Well, aside from the lovely wedding, flowers, people, and the excitement; the food was runner up. I now present, Caroline and Gavin’s wedding.

This has to be one of the coolest moments ever!!! Caroline’s father and Gavin actually have their own secret handshake. They showed off their moves in front of everyone at the wedding before Caroline was handed over to Gavin.
