There comes a time when we all enter a new chapter in our lives, whether by ourselves or as a collective group of childhood friends. In this case, I can safely say that my friends and I have entered the wedding chapter. There are more friends posting about their engagement and wedding photos than usual, which means more parties to attend and wedding cakes to sample! For our next photo shoot, my dear friend from Boy Scouts was the next in line to get married and I had the honor of recording their special memories starting with this engagement photo session. Shanghai 1942 Engagement Photography | Nanae & Jonathan

January 13, 2012

I am always a sucker for themed type of wedding and engagement photography sessions. With a theme, there is a really unique direction where I can focus on when we photograph these sessions. Nanae and Jonathan is a quirky couple who love art; whether it is in photography or fashion. Jonathan’s profession is designing projects for movie productions for Lucas Arts and Nanae love fashion designs and makeup. When we threw in our ideas together, this is what we decided on for their edgy engagement photography session. In Nanae and Jonathan’s engagement session in Pasadena and Los Angeles, they chose the theme “Shanghai 1942” which was super classy! Of course, even with a classy photo shoot, we added a bit of our personal spice to this engagement photography session.

With this themed engagement photo session, we chose two cities that have upheld their classic look through the changes – Pasadena and Chinatown Los Angeles. Our first location at Pasadena was to warm up and create edgy photographs in the fields under one of Old Town Pasadena’s overpass. One of the best parts of engagement photography session is that there are no time restrictions and anything can happen! An unexpected event during this photo shoot at Pasadena was that we ran into a couple goat owners and they allowed us to take some fun photos with their pets (you will see below)!

Once everyone warmed up and the timing of the sun was perfect, we headed to Chinatown Los Angeles to start our super edgy, yet classy, engagement photo shoot with their “Shanghai 1942” theme. In order to capture these type of photos, Danny and I set up multiple strobes to keep the focus on our subjects. On the side note, the accessories and outfits from Nanae were all her designs, which pulled off in this edgy engagement photography session perfectly! After we concluded our engagement photo session here in Chinatown Los Angeles, we wrapped everything all nicely up over at Hotel Figueroa! Since Hotel Figueroa’s lobby is a work or art in itself with all the colors and designs, it was not hard to find a place to take some awesome photos! Sit back, relax, and enjoy Nanae and Jonathan’s “Shanghai 1942” edgy engagement photography session!

Thank you Nanae and Jonathan for such a fun day during your engagement photography session and managing to deal with the cold weather and bugs in the field! Your final photographs from this engagement session was well worth it! Nanae and Jonathan will be hosting their wedding at beautiful Greystone Mansion.

Cheers,

Walking on the Rails | Patricia & Christian

November 19, 2010

It was a wonderful day in Sunny Los Angeles where Patricia and Christian had their engagement session done. This spunky couple wanted not only timeless photos, but some edgy photos to the point where we can get kicked out, which we did at one point! Couples who love to get into a bit of trouble fits my profile perfectly. We started our engagement session in the old parts of Los Angeles near Art District where everything is a work of art, even every inch of the walls were paved with amazing arban paint. Afterward, we roamed all over Los Angeles Union Station, Hotel Figueroa, and concluded at Disney Concert Hall. Check it out!

After we had our fun at LA Art District, we went through a few hidden alleys and onto live train tracks! Fortunately, Patricia was very agile with her heels and was not phased by the uneven ground and tracks throughout our photo shoot.

I must say, the bar tenders at Hotel Figueroa made the absolutely BEST mojitos in town. We each splurged a bit on a drink during our break before we continued with our photo shoot inside.

Instead of shooting at the concert hall, why not take the photos to the street?!

Stay tuned and there will be more to come from Patricia and Christian. They plan to host a destination wedding at Cabo San Lucas once the details are set in stone. I cannot wait!!!
