Do the…Bus Driver? | Stephanie & George

Langham, formally known as Ritz Carlton, is a beautiful and secluded resort in South Pasadena. Despite all the amazing events that took place during Stephanie and George’s wedding, I remembered vividly about this hilarious chat I had with the concierge while Lawrence and I waited for our lovely couple:

Me: Excuse me, what have changed since Ritz Carlton changed to Langham
Concierge: Oh, much have changed since the transition!
Me: Oh really? The only distinct change that I have noticed were your name tags and the sign at the front entrance.
Concierge: …okay, you got me. That is the most drastic change since the conversion.

The little things in life such as this conversation while at work makes my job as a wedding photographer so enjoyable and worthwhile! Anyway, I thought this little piece of the wedding day was a good idea to kick start this blog, even though it totally went off on a tangent. Enough about my weird conversations, back to Stephanie and George’s wedding! These two love birds hosted their wedding at the Japanese Garden – an intimate garden in the center of Langham. Grab a snack and get comfortable…this is going to be a long gallery. ^_^

Sorry boys, the gals had priority in luxury. While they were pampered in their suite, you boys had to get ready at the bar…I guess there were no objections to that, right? =)

Since the boys got dolled up ahead of schedule, we roamed around Langham to take some really cool portraits.

After Stephanie and George officially tied the knot and finished our wedding portrait session, Stephanie headed back to her suite to touch up a bit before the two made their grand entrance.

That wedding cake was SO DELICIOUS!

First dance as a married couple!

The best man, Thanh, performed an unique dance technique called “the bus driver.” Apparently, George taught Thanh this during their party days. It caught on throughout the night and everyone else followed suit. I can picture some hip-hop artist writing a song about this in the near future.

Stephanie changed into her beautiful red Chinese wedding gown before the second half of the reception. It was easier for Stephanie to get her groove on with this Chinese wedding dress too!

Road Trip! | Rennie & Adam

Whenever I think about road trips, I reminisce about the road trip of 2004. I drove from Atlantic City, NJ to Los Angles, CA in 42 hours. Throughout our quick tour across the nation, we battled the following elements: hurricane (Ohio), tornado (Texas), thunder storm (Texas), and a flash flood (Arizona). We flew across America mainly to be on time for our first day of college! Yes, I take education very seriously. As for this time, my road trip had a different form of excitement. Danny and I took a trip up California to photograph Rennie and Adam’s wedding at Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur.

Rennie and Adam hosted a very intimate Jewish wedding in a forest, which also had a spectacular view that overlooked the cliffs and to the calm Pacific Ocean. The wedding was filled with life and music. A couple close friends dedicated their songs to the happy couple during the ceremony. Despite all the thorns that got stuck in my legs when we trekked through the forest, the pleasure to photograph this wedding was worth the pain.

The Big Apple | Joanne & Brian

My life somehow revolves around apples. I like apple juice. I like baking apple pies. I also like playing the board game, Apples to Apples. Of all the places I have visited, a part of me will never leave the Big Apple (New York City…for those who do not know). I take any opportunity to fly back out to New York; whether it is to photograph a wedding or just to visit some familiar faces. As for this trip, Joanne and Brian gave me the pleasure to photograph their engagement session.

I love seeing people with those “Free Hugs” signs. Despite how gloomy a person’s day may be, the simple things in life such as a huge can brighten anyone’s mood.

Brian may not be a sailor from WWll, but he managed to pull this off quite well. =)

Singing in the Rain | Cindy & Jerome

There are ups and downs when the rain pours on you during an engagement shoot, but usually there are more ups than down. If it is the other way around, that means the engagement session will come to an end and there will not be any pictures, right? Fortunately, Cindy and Jerome enjoyed the rain as much as I did and made the best of our day. Luck was on our side since we only faced sporadic rain clouds. We started our engagement photo session at Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles and concluded at Old Town Pasadena…in Pasadena (haha, get it?). Enough of my dry humor in such a wet weather, here are a few clips of Cindy and Jerome’s performance in the rain.

We tried to stay nice and toasty inside the concert hall before battling the rain. This was actually my first time inside the concert hall, which was quite refreshing. The architecture of the interior is definitely one of a kind.

After the rain clouds took a short breather, we ran outside and took as many pictures as we can before the next wave of clouds arrived!

We took a quick detour to Los Angeles Union Station before our final destination at Old Town Pasadena. I must say that the detour was worthwhile!

Oh, what fun will an engagement session be if we cannot break a few rules? Since the street was nice and clear, we got ourselves a clean shot in the middle of the street! This is definitely one for the records.

Since this engagement photo session took place during Halloween (yes, that means I procrastinate on my blog posts), we took a more “grim and artsy” photo. I hope we pulled that feeling off in the following picture.

Thank you Cindy and Jerome for being such a great sport despite the rainy day. Sitting home in the rain is just too dull and boring for me.

VooOom…! | Beth & Nick

Before I begin this entry, I want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas, Hanukkah, and a prosperous New Year. I hope everyone were able to spend time with their family and people they hold dear to. ^_^

My next destination took me to the beautiful beach of Santa Monica. There is something really romantic about that place…I think it is the colorful ferris wheel on Santa Monica Pier. You cannot tell a romantic story without a ferris wheel! Since Beth and Nick are natives to this little city, there is something sentimental about having their engagement photos done there. Since Beth bought Nick a motorcycle for their anniversary, they decided to add that into their collection of engagement pictures. Strap your helmets on kiddos, this is going to be a fun ride!

Since Santa Monica was giving 3rd Street Promenade a face lift, there were a lot of construction during that time. Beth and Nick decided to be a bit adventurous and climbed up the scaffold to avoid the grime from below. I love couples as crazy as me! ^_^

I totally forgot what this pizza place was called, but the food was SO GOOOOD! The management of this establishment graced us with their kitchen to snap a few engagement pictures before we made our way to the pier.

…ahh yes, the ferris wheel. =)

We topped off our fun day by getting our feet wet at the beach.

Beth and Nick will be getting married this June at Wayfarer’s Chapel in Palos Verdes. Their wedding is going to be so fun!
