Congratulations My Bruins! | Nannie Song and Heijin Park

July 15, 2009

ucla college graduation portraitsHey everyone,

My last batch of friends from UCLA finally graduated!!! Nannie and Heijin wanted their graduation pictures to have a little more spark, rather than the traditional graduation portraits at a studio. I was honored to be their photographer for such an important milestone in their lives. Photographing their graduation also gave me an excuse to go back to UCLA. I have not stepped foot onto UCLA since my graduation last year. When I walked along the halls of Royce and Powell, it brought back fond memories of class, friends, and the long nights researching at the library. Anyway, it was just great to be back on campus. Enjoy the graduation photos!

It took a lot of effort to put Nannie on top of our bruin statue. That bruin was slippery, but worth the picture! =)

Wear Your Love like Heaven | Stephanie & George

July 15, 2009

Good afternoon,

Our latest adventure took us to the beautiful city of Santa Monica. Stephanie and George took the day off to not only photograph their engagement session, but also to enjoy a breath of fresh air at the beach. Hitting two birds with one stone is always a good way to go! Life is too short, hit as many birds as you can (not literally). We started our engagement photo session at 3rd St. Promenade, which is about two short blocks away from Santa Monica Pier. Initially, we were supposed to photograph at Santa Monica Pier, but we later found out that heels were not the best footwear for walking on wooden planks. I now present, Stephanie and George’s engagement photo session at 3rd St. Promenade (Santa Monica).

…love it when people walk in the middle of your photograph, huh?

Coincidentally, there was an art show at the same time we photographed our engagement session. We hopped in front of one snazzy artwork to another. =)

You two definitely wore your love like heaven well!

Stephanie and George gave everyone a show when they danced with the street performers!

Stephanie wanted a balloon monkey. Whatever that balloon maker did, that was definitely not a monkey. Stephanie was still a good sport about it and wore that balloon around with style throughout their engagement session.

I hope everyone enjoyed these engagement portraits. For those who are looking for a fun filled day, I would suggest The Promenade and Santa Monica Pier! Stephanie and George will be getting married this October in Langham Hotel in Pasadena.

Adios,

Sunflowers and Organic Gardens | Mercy and Jaime

July 14, 2009

Hello all,

Long Beach is a real gem when it comes to photographing weddings and engagement sessions! This engagement couple, Mercy and Jaime, took me around to a number of locations in Long Beach where I never knew existed. We started off their engagement photo session at their garden where they harvest their own vegetables. Their garden consists of squash, artichoke, and a lot of sunflowers. I just had to include a few of those sunflowers in our series of engagement photos. Check them out!

Jaime told me that sunflowers are one of the easiest plants to grow. Just buy a bag of sunflower seeds and toss them on the ground and they are usually self-sufficient. =)

We tried to mimic Grant Wood’s American Gothic painting in this next engagement photograph. Mercy and Jaime were not grumpy enough!

Outside their garden was a grove of trees that sprout purple flowers. I want one of these trees at my house!

After the gardens, we drove to Downtown Long Beach for some urban pictures!

I stood on the train tracks for this following image. Thankfully, no trains operated at that time.

We concluded our engagement session at a docking yard between Long Beach and San Pedro.

Thank you Mercy and Jaime for the personal tour around Long Beach. The couple will be wedded in Argentina this November!

Put It Back On | Vivian & Ryan

July 7, 2009

Howdy,

It has been a while since I have blogged any weddings and engagement sessions. I guess it is time to start cranking them all out! For starters, Vivian and Ryan finally tied the knot at The Club at Woodbury in Irvine. For those who do not know this couple, I photographed this spunky couple’s engagement session in Laguna Beach and Crystal Cove not too long ago. The best part about their wedding was that everything was walking distance! Vivian and Ryan’s house (where the wedding party prepared themselves) was a brisk 10 minute walk away from The Club. Since I did not feel like walking that day, I decided to drive. Enough sidetracking, I now present Vivian and Ryan’s wedding!

I had to be extra careful when I took this photo. I placed Vivian’s wedding shoes on a canvas that Ryan’s mother painted for them. =X

My favorite wedding detail of the day! Can you guess what that is?! Hint: It is not a necklace.

The words engraved inside Ryan’s wedding ring was hilarious!

The ladies showed off a bit of their moves before the wedding ceremony ^_^

I forgot the exact significance of that box, but it related to writing letters to each other every year. I thought that was a cute method of telling each other about their feelings.

irvine-wedding-photography

Now that is how wedding kisses should be. With feeling!!!

After the ceremony, I took the wedding party aside to a local park to capture some really cool photos!

I did not want Ryan to be left out without a bouquet, so we picked a nice green one for him!

The band that Vivian and Ryan hired for their wedding did an outstanding performance. They dressed up as The Beatles from every era and sang all night.

Towards the end of the night, the wedding guests made two lines and lit sparklers for Vivian and Ryan’s grand exit!

What a fun bunch! Thank you Vivian and Ryan for all the fond memories from your wedding.

Cheers,

Doug

P.S. – Thank you Vivian and Ryan for the presents!
