Next Stop – Canary Island!

Friday, January 16th, 2009

Howdy viewers,

In the summer, Julie and I will be in Europe on a tour. While there, we are hoping to photograph a few of our new friends that we met at JW and CC’s wedding. After our tour in Europe, we are going to Canary Islands to vacation for an extra week – no tours, no running around, just relaxation!

We will be in Canary Islands from July 31 – August 7, 2009. Therefore, if you are have a wedding or want an engagement session there, just let me know! I will be equipped with all of my gear, so I would love the opportunity to take a day or two to shoot – be it a wedding, engagement, day after session, boudoir or anything! I have never been to Canary Islands, but the pictures look gorgeous! Take a second to view my website at Furious Photographers [dot] com or go straight to my portfolio below.

Obviously, since I will be out there that week, there will be no travel fees. All I want to do is have a good time and take loads of pictures! I will also have my Canon 5D Mark II with me so I can take 1080p videos too! :) Look forward to having a good time with anyone who wants to have a tropical drink with me!

JW and CC Married!

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

Howdy,

Per special requests, the subjects will be called JW (bride) and CC (groom) opposed to their real names.  After three days and two nights in Tuscon, Arizona with JW and CC, you will either walk away talking like a cowboy(girl) or with an English accent. Personally, I favor the latter. Just as background information, JW is from the UK. As much as I wanted to embrace England’s style of talking, Julie reminded me that I will have my chance when we visit Europe this June.

Six months ago, I received an email from JW inquiring about New Year’s eve. One week ago, I photographed the happiest and most fun-spirited group of people that I have ever met. As I compose this entry, I am reminded of how much I miss them. *glum*

Anyway, Julie and I flew in from LAX to Tuscon, Arizona on December 30th, 2008. Upon arriving at Lazy K Ranch – where some of the wedding party resided – I was immediately greeted with proffered hands and a beer from two gentlemen – Jason and Thomas. Obviously, it did not take me long to love them already.

After opening a couple of cans, Jason and Thomas engaged in a game of Shuffle Board. It so happens that I just learned how to play the game while on my cruise to Mexico with Julie. Since Thomas was camera shy, I obliged by using my telephoto lens, which captured some gnarly pictures.

Thomas gave a defeated look after knocking one of his pucks into the “10 Off” section.

After a game to 50 points, it was time to get ready for the wedding – they were stuffing the colorful boxes with confetti that will be used for JW and CC’s grand entrance.

This was Becky’s dog and he resided at Lazy K Ranch. This bull dog was ultra friendly and was well-received by everyone.

On that same evening before the wedding, JW had a barbecue at the ranch for her close friends and family.

Onto the wedding day! JW and her entourage got ready at the Omni Hotel. She specifically requested for no posed or ceremony images.

Throughout the preparation, Hannah was admiring JW.

This was the first time I saw that pink egg spongy device. I am guessing that it serves the same purpose as those triangular white wedges.

While I was focusing on JW, Julie was outside taking some wicked images like the following:

While JW was doing her makeup, she told me that she felt like it was another day at work. I was curious so asked why. JW responded that she’s an actress. I did not think much of it at the moment, until I met up with JW’s father outside the hotel room. He pulled out a copy of “USA Today” and said, “Look! JW’s on the paper today!” I was a little blown away and surely enough, there she was – JW. I was then star struck for a few minutes before I realized that I had to get back to work haha!

Here is Hannah taking another gander at JW…

All ready to go!

jodie whittaker and christian contreras wedding

When JW walked out of the hotel room, she was greeted with a smile and tears from her father. After the wave of emotions, a series of funny events happened. JW clamped her dress at the door and realized that she left the key inside the room. Once JW’s mom went to the lobby to get an extra set of keys, the bridesmaids realized that they did not shut the patio door. They reentered the room to open the door at the same moment when JW’s mom returned with the spare. Rather than stressing out, everyone just roared with laughter.

Check out her sweet ride! It was a Thunderbird! For some reason, I really adore that round window on the right. So awesome! JW’s father drove her to the church.

Did you know that Bombay Sapphire is actually clear and not blue? Many people do not know that.

Since JW and CC both attended Guildhall School of Music and Drama and became an actress/actor, having movie covers as table settings was befitting.

The grand entrance! YAY!

JW and CC’s first dance as husband and wife! This was one of my favorite images throughout the day. They both shared such an intimate moment as if no one else was present in the room.

jodie whittaker and christian contreras wedding

JW and CC’s wedding pie! No worries – they had awesome desserts throughout the evening. I will probably have to make another post just for the foods.

jodie whittaker and christian contreras wedding

There was lots of dancing, laughing, kissing, hugging and crying. The room was overflowing with emotions!

jodie whittaker and christian contreras wedding

Counting down…happy new year!

jodie whittaker and christian contreras wedding

I will make another post with more pictures later to keep it bandwidth friendly. Thank you JW and CC for entrusting Julie and me to photograph your wedding. I truly miss you everyone! I wish I had the luxury to call you all up to have lunch, but that chance will have to wait until I go to England.

Cruise Control…Get it?

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

Howdy,

Back from Mexico! What a trip – I was on what they considered the “holiday cruise” because I went over Christmas / Hanukkah / whatever holiday break. I went on the Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) Star. It toured the Mexican Riviera – Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta. Aside from the super cool service and extremely sanitary environment, they have a wedding ceremony hall!

I was so stoked when I saw it because I imagined people getting married in it. I long for the day to be able to photograph one of those weddings! A wedding on a cruise. Correction – a wedding on the sea/ocean. That would be super awesome. Be it Norwegian Cruise Line, Princess Cruise, Carnival Cruise, Royal Caribbean Cruise, I will so be there! In case if you are interested, please visit the following, or continue with my Mexican adventure below.

Again, Julie and I took Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) to Mexico. They also offer trips to Mexico, Europe, Asia…basically around the world.

Here is a ubiquitous item – motion sensor hand sanitizer. Before anyone was even allowed onto the cruise, we all had to wash our hands. They had these pumps everywhere! These hand sanitizers were at the entrances and exits for restaurants, restrooms, playrooms, library…everywhere!

The big blue!

Here are a couple of pictures of the intimate chapel on the cruise – so awesome! It overlooks the ocean!

cruise line wedding photography

The cruise makes sure to have plenty of entertainment on board. Aside from game rooms, pools, jacuzzi, slides, live music, there were also broadway shows and magic shows every night!

cruise line wedding photography

First stop – Cabo San Lucas. We had to take these tenders (also the life boats) to land. The Princess Cruise Line and Oosterdam Cruise Line were also there. Since there was only one dock at each location, the cruise lines had to take turn using it.

cruise line wedding photography

cruise line wedding photography

While on the tender, I was reminded of a fun time I had at Cancun with Julie when I looked at her bag. We will actually be photographing two weddings there this year! One in Cancun and one at Isla Mujeres, Mexico.

cruise line wedding photography

Look at Cabo San Lucas, Mexico – perfect place to play and to have a wedding. I have a friend who had it there once and it was awesome!

cruise line wedding photography

Here is an image of the our cruise (NCL) and Ooserdam docked out in the ocean. The ocean looks so inviting :D

cruise line wedding photography

There were various excursions that one can take at every dock. Julie and I decided to go scuba diving! Normally, I am not sea sick, but taking a tiny boat out to our dive site got me making fish food the entire day – not fun.

cruise line wedding photography

While I was there, I saw lots of well-behaved dogs that would just sit there. They do not bark or chase. They just lay there! By the way, I photographed this with a 24mm lens, so it was not a telephoto or anything. Even being so close, the dog did not react, which was weird.

cruise line wedding photography

Back on the cruise, I watched a magic show by Murray! What a funny guy! Since I was sitting in the front seat, I got lots of autographed stuff tee hee!

cruise line wedding photography

Second stop – Mazatlan, Mexico. Since the previous day was such a disaster (vomiting), Julie and I decided to take a nice scenic bus tour, which was awesome! We saw many historical places and ate at cool restaurants. The best part was that I got to see everything cool about Mazatlan and napped in the bus in between each location.

The following images are of an old brick builder. He made everything out of adobe, which keeps the homes cool during hot days. He made about $20 for every 1,000 bricks he builds. Wow!

Next stop on my bus tour was a pottery and wood shop.

Chalva’s Restaurant – the best Mexican restaurant I have ever had! It is located in Copala, which is a tiny town established in 1565. The owner of the restaurant is actually from Pasadena, CA. He used to own a catering business and decided to move out there because Mexico is so cool. In my honest opinion, anywhere else in the world is cooler than Los Angeles, CA.

Yum! A variety of Mexican food coupled with a bottle of Pacifico!

Maria – our super awesome tour guide! She works for the district attorney during her week and tour guide during her spare time!

cruise line wedding photography

Third stop – Puerto Vallarta. I heard many people have weddings here too – stellar! I have time share here so I can go anytime!

cruise line wedding photography

We went through Vallarta Adventures to go Canopy zip lining through the Mexican forest! Our guide was Armando, who was super educated and totally fun to hang around with. The trip to the forest was 45 minutes, so we had lots of bonding time. Amidst discussion, I concluded that Armando knew more about the American mainstream culture more than we Americans did. He blew my mind!

cruise line wedding photography

The following are just a couple of images during our way to the forest.

I look silly here because the guide said “let go of your hands” and I did what he said. Had I known, I would have done something else *rolls eyes*

cruise line wedding photography

After an exhausting day zip lining 90′ up in the air and across the distance of two and a half football fields, Julie and I were starving. We asked our cab driver to take us to the best “Mariscos” (or seafood) around Puerto Vallarta. He drove us to “Lucky Lobster,” which is funny because the lobster in question was actually not so lucky…rather delicious!

Mmm seafood cocktail!

After a filling meal, I was eager to try my American Starbucks gift card that Joyce Luck gave me right before my trip. Surprisingly, it worked! Plus, I had to use the restroom and …yeah.

cruise line wedding photography

On the last few nights heading home, I took some pictures of Howell Sterling from Xcite who performed at the pool area.

cruise line wedding photography

Julie and I played lots of Scrabble – fun times!

cruise line wedding photography

While Julie was getting sea sick on our last night, I played Solitaire by myself for an entire day. YAY!

cruise line wedding photography

All in all, what a great adventure. I highly suggest everyone to try a cruise line! It is so inexpensive and so fun! I almost cannot believe it.

Dreaming of my next trip,

Racing in Target | Nancy & Edward

Monday, January 5th, 2009

Hello Everyone,

Nancy and Edward’s wedding was far from ordinary. The photographs taken during their engagement session is enough to describe their characters. Their wedding started when Edward and his entourage drove to pick up Nancy at her house in Claremont as a part of a traditional Chinese wedding ceremony. A Chinese wedding ceremony includes a lot of games, performances, and MONEY! =D

Nancy and her jewelery!

Each groomsmen had a task to perform before entering Nancy’s house =D

Moo…shiny

After the wedding ceremony was over, we headed to an open range in Diamond Bar. We were fortunate enough to have clear blue skies during the entire wedding. The following textures used in the next few pictures are from Tofurious.com.

san gabriel hilton wedding photography

Do not worry, no one from the wedding party got hurt. The obstacles the wedding party faced to take this photograph made their wedding more memorable…or traumatizing. Either way, this wedding photograph turned out perfect! =D

After running around the hills in Diamond Bar, we visited their local Target. The employees were nice enough to allow us to play and photograph inside the store!

Ready, set, GO!!!

While the Starbucks Baristas were making our coffee, we managed to fit in a few poses in their lounge. Not bad for a wedding group portrait! =)

Thank you Nancy, Edward, and your entire wedding entourage. Even though we ran around in the middle of a main street, invaded Target, and a Starbucks, these wedding photographs were all worth the trip! Our final destination for this wedding was at San Gabriel Hilton. I hope you all enjoy these photographs from their wedding as much as I did!  I will make another post later with their reception pictures in order to keep the blog more bandwidth friendly.
