New York Engagement Photography

Monday, August 25th, 2008

Good morning!

Two weeks ago, Doug and I went to New York City to photograph a lovely couple - Tiffany and Ly. Their wedding will be held in Cancun, Mexico next year! We started our session in Central Park where they wanted more romantic pictures. Afterwards, Tiffany and Ly wanted some edgier pictures in the urban Manhattan, New York.

Central Park and Manhattan were full of photography opportunities! We really didn’t have to even to think of cool places to shoot. Turn the corner and there would be another spot! :)

When we were leaving Central Park, we ran into a really good singer. We asked Tiffany and Ly if they would like to dance for a few minutes.

Once exiting the subway in SOHO (New York City), we saw a discarded office chair on the sidewalk. Doug and I looked at each other and grinned. :) Making sure that it was safe to sit on, we planted the office chair in the middle of the busy sidewalk. We asked Tiffany and Ly to hold still while we dragged the shutter so that the pedestrians will have a nice motion blur.

The following image is one of our favorites! We couldn’t have left NYC without taking a high fashion picture with the urban grunge of New York City (SOHO). We absolutely love the cobble stone street and the various colors in the background. If you look at the bottom left corner, there were a number of cooks and servers loitering outside because they were on break. We used them in the following picture!

The staff was a little shy at first, but after much encouraging, we got them to line up for a picture. It was well worth it!

Good bye New York! We always <3 it there. Our cousins and many friends (including Parris Whittingham - a photographer) reside in that area. I will make a post on our random adventures with Parris and our dear cousins in another post. Thank you Tiffany and Ly for being such graceful subjects! We look forward to working with you in Cancun (Mexico) next year!!!

Cheers,

P.S. Tiffany - Doug still remembers that you will hook him up with a girlfriend ;D

Engagement Photography: Amy & Jay | Pasadena

Sunday, August 24th, 2008

Hello,

While Lawrence was away in Sacramento, I had the pleasure of photographing a fun couple in Pasadena. Their wedding will be next year in Georgia. Amy and Jay thought it would be fun to get some engagement pictures before the big day! We started our day in Old Town Pasadena and walked around aimlessly.

08-08-08 Wedding: Nancy & Adrian

Sunday, August 24th, 2008

Howdy, readers!

On August 08, 2008, Tang and I photographed a small wedding hosted on the top level of the San Gabriel Hilton (Los Angeles).

225 West Valley Blvd
San Gabriel, CA 91776

Nancy and Adrian shared their intimate wedding with us on this “lucky day!” For those who are not aware of Asian beliefs, the number “8″ is considered to be a prosperous number. The phonetic spelling of “8″ is closely related to “wealth.”

Anyway, please enjoy this small series of wedding photographs :D

Since there were about four other weddings going on in this venue, I resorted to doing our private session in the basement parking of the hotel. I never skip an opportunity for a grunge feel.

Dru and George’s Wedding at Faulkner Winery

Sunday, August 10th, 2008

Hello!

It has been a while since I photographed with my buddy - Gavin - and he recently graced me with another opportunity. The previous time I photographed with him was at the Hollywood Yamashiro Restaurant in Hollywood.

Since we are currently at the peak of our wedding photography season, I have been doing nothing but post-production work during the weekdays. I wanted a respite from behind the monitor and to go shoot a few rounds at a wedding with a crony. I was so fortunate that Dru and George warmly welcomed me to their wedding of which was very beautiful.

Dru and George hosted their wedding at Faulkner Winery in Temecula, CA. The winery provided many great opportunities to take gorgeous pictures! I took advantage of every chance - green vines, rustic oak barrels, colorful walls and the works! Check out some of the pictures :)

Energy!

They had a full Mariachi band playing during their ceremony and part of the reception :D

Twice the bouquet power! I absolutely dig the feathers.

This is one of my favorite shots. It took me a few minutes to setup, but it was well worth it. This was a two-point lighting - one in the back at 1/8 power and one in the front at 1/64 power. Dru looks angelic!

This is my other favorite one! Gavin and I photographed this in between the Cabernet vines around sunset. The warm yellow glow coupled with the vines made the perfect backdrop.

This is Gavin and his three cameras! A-Okay ;D

With the help of Gavin’s awesome Alienbee setup in the back of the reception, I used it as a powerful back light. BAM! That strobe poured light into the entire winery.

We did a quick shot before we left Faulkner Winery where they make their wines in oak barrels.

Anyway, it is time for me to go to Disneyland, so see you all later. We have like $%^(*& more weddings to post so just hang in there ;D We dedicate a lot of time on every image.

Cheers,

Engagement: Alina and Lester

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

Howdy,

After many attempts, our busy schedules finally allowed for all of us to meet for an engagement photography session. Since Alina and Lester like trains a lot, they found the Travel Town Museum to as a befitting place to take their engagement pictures.

Lester! What are you doing?!

Since Doug and I have photographed here before, we knew of this interesting place that says “Do Not Hump.” I am guessing it is some train jargon. Nevertheless, we had to take advantage!

I like how the soft light poured through the window. This is my favorite!

Their wedding is in less than two weeks! Ah how fun! It will be in Los Angeles Chinatown.

Sweetness,
