Turnip Rose Wedding Photography
Greetings,
On June 29, 2008, we photographed an awesome wedding at The Turnip Rose Elite Catering in Costa Mesa, CA (Orange County). More information on this beautiful location can be found at their website:

We have met our lovely bride and groom - Megan and Kevin - a number of times before their actual wedding. They are the friends of Hung (I did not have a blog yet, so sadly no link), Ryan (wedding at the Ebell Club) and James (wedding at the Hyatt Regency). All of the aforementioned entrusted us - Furious Photographers - to photograph their weddings! We are so thankful for their trust and for their friendship. Shooting the wedding was such a blast because it was like hanging out with old friends. As old friends, they are warranted a lot more room for pictures on our blog!
While Doug had a cool adventure riding on buses, drinking at bars and then more drinking at The Turnip Rose, I got to sit back and watch television with the girls! It is a win-win situation
Let’s begin with Doug’s little trek prior to Costa Mesa.
This is what happens when one forgets how to tie a tie.

Being a fan of movies, Doug wanted to do something like produced the 1992 movie “Reservoir Dogs.”

Doug’s attempt to produce something similar to a Beetle’s album cover called “Abbey Road” in 1969.

The groom and his cronies taking public transportation to their local bar.

Here is the beautiful Megan lounging around before her preparation session. She was aiming for a retro-style pin-up look, which was totally awesome! Megan also had this really sexy birdcage veil, which I have always longed a bride to wear because I think it is so cool. Her makeup and fabulous hair style was done by Natalie Morisoli.

This was Megan’s dress waiting for her at the Turnip Rose bridal room.

The following two images is Megan’s being a pin-up girl. We intentionally gave the image a washed out grainy feel to replicate the pop culture of its time.

Look at that “sassssssss!”

Since the groom was sequestered voluntarily in the lounge with a surfeit of beer and air conditioning, Megan and I explored Turnip Rose and took some solo pictures of herself being an awesome bride!

Isn’t the Turnip Rose a beautiful location? We had three photographers that day - Tang, Doug and myself. We situated ourselves in all parts of the ceremony garden to make sure we get the best angles!

A nice warm and desaturated look for the retro-style wedding.

Megan wanted to “Vogue” it so Doug obliged by clicking away. I absolutely love her eyes!

What a fabulous cake! It tasted fabulous too! YUM!

The following two images were not easy to achieve. It was an extremely low-light situation. It was only achieved by using our Canon 24 f/1.4L and Canon 50 f/1.2L respectively. We added just a splash of flash to light our subjects while maintaining the background/ceiling lights that sparkled like stars in the evening sky.

All in all, it was a blast photographing this wedding. The very same night we took a red-eye flight to Cancun, Mexico. Needless to say, Doug and I were beat.

Awesome work and I love your whole blog. That birdcage veil looks amazing (of course it doesn’t hurt to have a stunningly beautiful bride wearing it). My favorite image though is the shot from above of the bride and groom dipping.
BTW thanks for the comment on my blog.
