As a fellow Bruin in the Asian American Studies Department, I support one of the Korean plays by photographing their event. Jung! the play was so entertaining!

Dear readers,

I was invited to photograph an event called “Korean Culture Night 2008” featuring “Jung” at UCLA. The event was hosted on April 9, 2008 in Royce Hall (UCLA).

This was a large production created by UCLA students. It was a fusion of old Korean culture and contemporary styles that made the event relatable to everyone. Jung is the protagonist in the play. His quest was to win the heart of a girl. During his trek, hip hop dancing and other forms of dancing were used as transitions from scene to scene.

The play took advantage of gel lights and many props to give each scene a different mood. I took loads of pictures because the play was so awesome.

My fellow Bruin asked if I can photograph their Cultural Awareness Night. I was more than happy to cover such a fun filled event!

Hello,

Since my major is in ethnic studies, I had the luxury of studying about other cultures aside from my own. I particularly enjoy taking Chicano courses at UCLA because I live in Los Angeles where the Chicano culture is strong. After befriending a number of classmates, they invited me to photograph an event by their organization called “A Night of Cultura Show” hosted at Sunset Canyon Rec Center Amphitheater. This event was on Wednesday, June 04, 2008. The title of the show was “Stories From This Side of the Fence.”

It was sad to hear that the organization was about to shut down due to a lack of funding. The goal of the organization was to bring awareness to the community. Despite being a budgeted play, it was filled with life and passion! The actors and actresses played their parts with vigor and the audience hungered for more.

Hopefully, they will host another event for next year because I had a blast! The admission is free so whoever has time and is around UCLA, please support the events!

Can’t handle the heat? Stay out of the kitchen.

Howdy,

After what seemed to be forever, I still could not figure out why this WordPress theme sets the width and height when it should be dynamic. It is simply poor coding. That is the reason why we have not posted for a while. While I wait for two of my friends to try to figure it out, I will have to manually code it to how I like it.

On April 26, 2008, after we photographed Gina and Nate, we saw a bright orange glow near where we live. With the recent heat and hot winds, I already suspected it to be a brush fire. Alas, I was correct. The Santa Anita Canyon was engulfed in flames, which damaged my beloved hiking trail to Chantry Flat.

After dropping Julie off, Doug and I zipped to Santa Anita Mall to get a better view. To illustrate the potential danger encroaching onto civilization, Doug took this breathtaking (in a scary way) photograph of the brush fire.

I hope you all like it!
